Flight of the Guitar: Dreaming of Paco de Lucía
9 countries, 12 cities, 2 continents and 34,412 kilometres… this is the journey of a unique guitar – La Maestro – the only guitar designed by musical legend Paco de Lucía, and handcrafted by his friend and luthier, Antonio Morales.
In the passionate and entrancing world of flamenco guitar, Paco de Lucía’s ‘La Maestro’ is afforded as much respect and awe as the late Spaniard himself. Three directors follow La Maestro from a luthier’s workshop, as it travels first class from Spain to New York and Boston, then to Brazil, Cuba, Mexico and Argentina. Giants of Latin guitar – including Tomatito, Caetano Veloso, Carlinhos Brown, Mariza, Alejandro Sanz and Luis Salinas – are afforded the reverential experience of playing de Lucía’s signature instrument while reminiscing about the late virtuoso’s genius as a leading exponent of flamenco and one of the first flamenco guitarists to crossover into other genres of music, including classical and jazz.
This is an intense and heartfelt homage to the undeniable symbiosis between flamenco music and the culture – la alegría de vivir – and spirituality of the Latin music world.
